Amrik Singh Mann ( Canada ) – Funder and Supporter

I recently had the pleasure to meet another  ‘Mann’ brother whist in Banga. Amrik Singh Mann is a generous funder and supporter of the Baba Gola Welfare Society. Amrik initially emigrated to worked and lived in Spain for nearly two decades. He subsequently moved to Canada and is now well settled there with his family. He visits Banga for a few months every year and is actively involved in the charitable work of Baba Gola Welfare Society contributing generous funds to Baba Gola Gurudwara and our charitable causes.

He also has a keen interest in our history and was able to enlighten me on several facts regarding Baba Gola Ji and the over three hundred year history of Banga. He explained that during the time when the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur was alive Baba Gola ji was employed in his household to look after the young Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a special loving bond was thus naturally  formed between Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Baba Gola Ji. Guru  Gobind Singh Ji became the tenth Guru at a very tender age, in tragic circumstances after the tortuous martyrdom inflicted upon Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji by the  tyrannical  Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life so that the Hindu Hill Rajas could practice their religion in complete freedom without the threat of being forcibly converted to Islam. This was a great and noble cause for which he sacrificed his life.

Guru Gobind Singh ji also had a sensitive internal issue to deal which was the corruption of the ‘Masands’ . At  the time the Masands were the appointed tax collectors on behalf of the Sikh Community . Over time the Masand’s had become greedy and corrupt and had become a burden on the rural population. Guru Gobind Singh Ji punished the Masands and restored a sense of justice. Baba Gola Ji was also a Masand by birth but Guru Ji recognised that he was completely innocent and because of this and his close personal connection he spared him.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji gifted Baba Gola Ji a ‘Saandh’ (Buffalo) on which  was placed a sack of Wheat , Baba Gola was told that wherever the Saandh drops the sack of wheat that is where he should establish his home or his ‘Bunga’ . The sack of wheat fell and scattered in the area which we now know as Banga and this is where Baba Gola Ji established his home,  settled and got married. He had two sons , Bheg Singh and Nar Singh. Bheg Singh founded what is now the area of Masandan Patti whilst Nar Singh founded Nar Singh Patti further down time two of Baba Gola’s newphew’s , Dhoom Singh and Dhal Singh and their descendants developed Tungal Patti and Sagar Patti in Banga. The descendants of all these forefathers include the Mann families and The Chaudhary families ( From Nar Singh’s daughter’s’ side ) who  live and farm the lands in and around Banga to this day.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ‘ਮਾਨ’ ਭਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਵੈਲਫੇਅਰ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਦਾਰ ਫੰਡ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਰਥਕ ਹਨ। ਅਮਰਿਕ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਦੋ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਸਪੇਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਥੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੈਟਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਬੰਗਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਵੈਲਫੇਅਰ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਦੇ ਚੈਰੀਟੇਬਲ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਚੈਰੀਟੇਬਲ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਫੰਡ ਦਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਦਿਲਚਸਪੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਸੌ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਈ ਤੱਥਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਨੌਵੇਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਸਨ, ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਦੇਖਭਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਸਨ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਪਿਆਰ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਜ਼ਾਲਮ ਮੁਗਲ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਬਹੁਤ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਸਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣ ਗਏ। ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਇਸਲਾਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਰਮ ਮੰਨ ਸਕਣ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਮਹਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਨੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਆਂਤਰਿਕ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਸੀ ਮਸੰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਮਸੰਦ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਤਰਫੋਂ ਟੈਕਸ ਵਸੂਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਸੰਦ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਅਤੇ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਆਬਾਦੀ ‘ਤੇ ਬੋਝ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਸੰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਬਹਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਵੀ ਜਨਮ ਤੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਮਸੰਦ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਰਦੋਸ਼ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ  ਇੱਕ ਸਾਂਡ ਤੋਹਫ਼ੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਸ ‘ਤੇ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਬੋਰੀ ਰੱਖੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਸਾਂਡ ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਬੋਰੀ ਸੁੱਟੇ, ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਜਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ‘ਬੁੰਗਾ’ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਣਕ ਦੀ ਬੋਰੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਿੰਡ ਗਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਹੁਣ ਬੰਗਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਵਸ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਵਾ ਲਿਆ।   ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ  ਦੋ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬੇਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਨਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਨ। ਬੇਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਮਸੰਦਨ ਪੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਨਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਪੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਭਤੀਜੇ  ਸਨ  ਧੂਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਤੁੰਗਲ ਪੱਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ  ਸਾਗਰ ਪੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰਾਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਨ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ (ਨਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਦੇ  ਪਾਸਿਓਂ) ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਬੰਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
