SECURING THE FUTURE.

I had a chance to meet up with my cousin Kamaljit Singh Mann in India in 2024, he was on one of his regular trips and I had been there since 2022 caring for my elderly mother who has since, sadly passed away. We discussed the situation of Baba Gola Gurudwara. The history of this revered place goes back 300 years to when Baba Gola Ji ( A personal servant of Guru Gobind Singh Ji ) founded this town. His descendants, generations of the ‘Mann’ families have lived and farmed the lands in and around this town since then to the present day. From the late 1950’s many of these families started emigrating to countries such as the USA, Canada and the U.K. More recently there have been more people who have emigrated to European countries such as Italy, Germany, Greece and Portugal. This naturally resulted in the shrinking of the congregation (sangat)  over time. The danger was that in the years to come the Gurudwara and its significance would fade into obscurity, lost in the mists of time. 

Kamal felt very strongly that we needed to do something about this. To keep the legacy alive.  We created and registered ‘Baba Gola Welfare Society’ for this purpose. Set up a formal committee structure with a written constitution . Opened a dedicated bank account where all the funds were duly deposited. The management committee at present consists of the following members: Amrik Singh Mann ( President ), Hardeep Singh Mann ( Vice President ) , Ashvinder Singh Mann ( Treasurer ). Surinder Singh Mann ( Vice Treasurer ), Khushvinder Singh Mann ( General Secretary ). Kamaljit Singh Mann ( Committee Member) , Jagtar Singh Badwal ( Committee Member ).

Since the majority of the ‘Mann’ families were now settled abroad with some of them now in their third and fourth generation abroad, it was clear that inevitably some of them would have lost touch with their roots. So this became a project not only to secure the legacy and future of the Gurudwara but also to re-connect all those families, their children and grandchildren to their roots. So that they are made aware of their culture and history ,felt a sense of pride and belonging and start re-connecting. We started in 2024 by registering Baba Gola Welfare Society as an umbrella organisation to promote and collect funds for not only the Gurudwara but also many other very worthy charitable causes linked to Baba Gola Ji, such as Baba Gola Charitble Girls School, Guru Arjan Dev Mission Hospital and Baba Gola Park. 

We recognise that in this day and age, Social Media is the best way to connect family and friends spread across the world to each other and to their roots in Banga. We created a website babagolabanga.in  and set up a Facebook page , Instagram , You tube and WhatsApp group to facilitate contact, connection and  fund raising. We feel that this is a great way to create a community of people across the world, of an extended family and friends that can not only get to know each other and appreciate their common roots but also become a very powerful force for networking and fundraising  for Gurudwara Baba Gola Ji, Baba Gola Girls School, and Guru Arjan Dev Mission Hospital to support the vital work that they do to help the  welfare of the less privileged ,poor and needy.

ਭਵਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨਾ

ਮੈਨੂੰ 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਚੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਕਮਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਨਿਯਮਤ ਯਾਤਰਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ‘ਤੇ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ 2022 ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੇਖਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਥਾਨ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ 300 ਸਾਲ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰਾਧਿਕਾਰ, ‘ਮਾਨ’ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਉਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਕਸਬੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਸ-ਪਾਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। 1950 ਦੇ ਦਹਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ, ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਕੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ. ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਥੇ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਆਏ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਯੂਰਪੀਅਨ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਇਟਲੀ, ਜਰਮਨੀ, ਗ੍ਰੀਸ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਰਤਗਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ. ਇਸ ਦਾ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਗਤ ਸੁੰਗੜਦਾ ਗਿਆ। ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਇਹ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਧੁੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਆਚ ਕੇ ਗੁੰਮਰਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। 

ਕਮਲ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ.  ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ‘ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਵੈਲਫੇਅਰ ਸੋਸਾਇਟੀ’ ਬਣਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਰਜਿਸਟਰ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇੱਕ ਲਿਖਤੀ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਰਸਮੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਢਾਂਚਾ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰੋ। ਇੱਕ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਬੈਂਕ ਖਾਤਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਿਆ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਫੰਡ ਸਹੀ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਜਮ੍ਹਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ: ਅਮਰੀਕ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ (ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ), ਹਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ (ਮੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ), ਅਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ (ਖਜ਼ਾਨਚੀ)। ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ (ਵਾਈਸ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਚੀ), ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ (ਜਨਰਲ ਸਕੱਤਰ)। ਕਮਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ (ਕਮੇਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ), ਜਗਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਡਵਾਲ (ਕਮੇਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰ)।

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ‘ਮਾਨ’ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਗਿਣਤੀ ਹੁਣ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਹੁਣ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੀਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੌਥੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਗੁਆ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, ਬਲਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੋਤੇ-ਪੋਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਨ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾਪਣ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਜੁੜਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ। ਅਸੀਂ 2024 ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਵੈਲਫੇਅਰ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਬਲਕਿ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਯੋਗ ਚੈਰੀਟੇਬਲ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਚੈਰਿਟਬਲ ਗਰਲਸ ਸਕੂਲ, ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਪਾਰਕ ਲਈ ਫੰਡ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਛਤਰੀ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਰਜਿਸਟਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
